Strategic Work Plan
INTERTANKO’s Strategic Objectives are to:
- be a positive and proactive influence with key stakeholders, developing policies and positions, harmonising a united industry voice, and engaging with policy and decision makers.
- develop and promote best practices in all sectors of the tanker industry, with owners and operators setting the example.
- profile and promote the tanker industry, communicating its role, strategic importance and social value.
- provide key services to Members, with customised advice, assistance and access to information, and enabling contact and communication between Members and with other stakeholders.
INTERTANKO’s Strategic Work Plan establishes a clear framework that bridges the Major Issues identified by its Members with the actions necessary to achieve the Association’s Strategic Objectives.
The work plan prioritises the actions to support Members on the fundamental quality, safety and environmental issues while also establishing the flexibility to remain agile and react positively to the complex and rapidly changing global landscape.
Recognising the increasing complexity of the Major Issues, the work plan is built around four Main Focus Areas designed to foster communication and collaboration between the working Committees on the compliance, contractual and operational impacts of, and actions on, these issues.
Main Focus Areas
- Human Element
- Risk Management and Tanker Safety
- Pollution Prevention and Mitigation
- Value Chain Collaboration
To maximise the Association’s effectiveness, visibility and influence across the Main Focus Areas, the Major Issues have been identified in each focus area with associated Specific Issues to address. An overview is provided on page 4.
Within each Specific Issue, High-Level Actions (HLA) and targeted Member Benefits (MB) have been developed and are grouped by focus area.
Tools and Processes
INTERTANKO provides strategic support and foresight to Members using several mechanisms. A number of benchmarking and performance-monitoring tools have been developed to assist the implementation of the various actions as Member benefits. Information is collated and shared during Regional Panel and Committee meetings, as well as during workshops, seminars and presentations targeting a wider audience. INTERTANKO disseminates information through publications and reports. Topical bulletins as well as a weekly electronic newsletter and the use of social media, further supplement the information available on INTERTANKO’s website.
